"... You May Now Revive the Bride"

July 12, 2007

Bridesmaid

Do you think this summer is hot? Well, it's positively arctic compared to the 100-degree weather Gina suffered from on her wedding day last July. "Our reception was at the country club and the air conditioners could not keep up," says Gina. "When we sat down for dinner, I started to feel nauseous. Our waitress noticed that I didn't look well and took me to the ladies room. I ended up going to the Emergency Room! My husband and I missed our whole dinner and part of our dance. I was so dehydrated, it took the doctors four painful tries to get an IV into me. I was the first bride the E.R. ever had!"

The Party Went On Without Them!

June 25, 2007

Bridesmaid

Brittany and her husband tied the knot on a lovely late summer day in a remote area of a national park in St. Augustine, Fla. The ceremony was beautiful, but little did they know they were about to take a cue from Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone! "When everyone left to go to the reception, they left us behind!" Brittany says. "The [guest in charge of coordinating travel] was more than a little tipsy when she told the boat that was to carry us into the sunset to go on ahead. Meanwhile, every possible car and cell phone had departed during our post-ceremony photo session. It took us an hour, but we finally ended up hitch-hiking to our own party with this nice – but sweaty – fisherman."

Unlucky Number 13 Strikes Jamaican Wedding

June 08, 2007

Bridesmaid

As Philly bride Christina tells us, this lovely photo of her Jamaican wedding disguises what really happened on their trip: "The travel agent placed half of guests at wrong hotel. My sister — and maid of honor -- broke her back after jumping from cliff. She was in a Jamaican hospital and missed the wedding. The best man needed stitches for a smashed finger. My father-in-law was lost for four hours, but returned unharmed. (Thank God!) We had no pilot for our homebound plane, [so we] couldn't leave until 2 AM." At least Christina has an idea why her beautiful day turned into such a disaster. "The number 13 came up too many times: 13 days on vacation, left on the 26th (double 13), 13 people in wedding, stayed in room 213, left airport from gate 13."

Why You Shouldn't Get Married On An Empty Stomach

June 07, 2007

Bridesmaid

Thanks to a travel agent's foul-up, Lacey -- who was getting married in Las Vegas -- would only have 23 hours in Sin City, leaving the couple racing around to get ready for the trip. "On the day of the wedding, it was 95 degrees outside and I hadn't eaten anything since early the day before," says the Gautier, Miss., bride. "I suffer from low blood sugar, and shortly after we said, "I do," I hit the floor. My husband stood there stunned because he didn't know what happened. I was able to finish the ceremony but in many of our pictures I have a pale stunned face."

The Cake Was the Least of Her Problems

June 02, 2007

Bridesmaid

"We ordered an intricate cake with dark colors of purples and greens," says Mandeville, La., bride Carly. Unfortunately, that's not what arrived. "[It was] a ridiculously colored, multi-tiered 'birthday' cake." It was just one of several problems that plagued her 1997 wedding. "The day before my wedding, I had a bridal tea. As soon as my last bridesmaid arrived a tornado followed her path and blocked us in at the tea house. Members of the bridal party were two hours late [to the wedding] due to traffic and blocked roads. The DJ's equipment was damaged in the weather and so he played CD's for the beginning of the reception." At least you looked beautiful on your big day, Carly!

Bride Discovers New Sport: Mud Dancing!

May 31, 2007

Bridesmaid

"I awoke on my wedding day to a huge downpour and flash floods," says Alison, whose Kent Island, Md., wedding reception soon felt like it was held at a water park. "Although we had a tent for the outside reception, there had been so much rain that spring that all the rain that water actually came up from the ground!" Luckily, her guests sprang to action: "One of my bridesmaid's mom and the minister's wife bought about 150 pairs of flip flops. Although the rain had stopped by the reception, the only dry ground was the dance floor. Mud was up to everyone's knees (including my wedding dress), but everyone danced and had a great time."

'Bridesmaids' Contract' Turns Out To Be Bad Joke

May 30, 2007

Bridesmaid

If by chance you were forwarded a "Bridesmaids' Contract" — a document asking bridesmaids to legally agree they won't gain weight or get a haircut without the bride's consent — you aren't alone. Katie Masters' email prank to her five bridesmaids ended up being one of the hottest forwards on the internet. "I thought it was hysterical," she tells PEOPLE in its new issue. "I thought everyone would think it was a joke." But her sister didn't get the joke, forwarding it to her husband, who then forwarded it to his friends (and so on). Poor Katie, seen as the ultimate bridezilla, ended up getting seriously harassed with critical emails (since her email address was on the forward). One man even tracked down her work number and threatened that he'd cancelled her order for her bridesmaids' dresses! (She's planning to hire security for September wedding to firefighter Bob Parker.) "I can't believe how many people believed it," she says. "When is it going to end?"

Her Dessert Was a Piece of Cake

May 24, 2007

Bridesmaid

Meredith thought her bad luck ended after she had a mishap with her wedding dress. "My halter dress hooks broke on the halter part and I was being held together by a two-inch safety pin during my ceremony," says the Towson, Md., bride. But then she went to her reception, held at the Hunt Valley Golf Club, and found an even bigger problem. "My mom informed me that my wedding cake never arrived. I asked for five minutes to be really mad and then I would enjoy my evening. The golf club supplied some pre-cut cheesecakes for us to take pictures with. The next day I contacted the bakery and it turns out the cake was delivered to another location and that bride thought it was a gift and signed for it." That's a pretty big disaster, but with at least you looked beautiful — safety pin and all!

She Almost Missed Her Own Wedding!

May 23, 2007

Bridesmaid

Alissa's wedding was picture-perfect — until she and her wedding party were literally stranded, thanks to serious car trouble! "The back of our limo hit the ground and smoke rose from the back of the car," the Cleveland bride tells PEOPLE.com. "The wheel broke off the axel and the back of the car was sitting on the tire." Luckily one of the groomsmen, Pete, had a solution in mind. "Pete is  manager of  The Great Lakes Brewing Company. The brewery sent their delivery van. My husband and I squeezed into a car with our photographer, and our bridal party hopped in the seatless delivery van, in tuxes and dresses." But they didn't let it spoil their night: "Everyone made it to the reception and we had a blast!"
