July 12, 2007

Bridesmaid

Stacy and her now-husband grew up across the street from each other, but before a romance could blossom, his family moved away, and he ended up getting a job in Toledo. But when Stacy headed to college in the Toledo area, she thought of ringing up her old friend. "I thought I would have an older guy around to buy me and my friends beer, and he was going to hang around us young college girls," she says. "But as fate would have it, we ended up dating almost immediately. We've been best friends ever since." (And since 2003, they've been husband and wife!)

Bridesmaid

Quinn was only 24 when she was faced with a devastating loss. "I lost the love of my life unexpectedly after a routine surgery took a turn for the worst," the Vacaville, Calif., native writes in. Then, only two years later, a dear friend of hers died in Iraq. But as the old cliche goes, you never know what's around the next corner. As Quinn writes, "I met my fiance, Brett, twice in passing. There was an attraction, no doubt, but it wasn't enough initially to spark a dating relationship. Shortly after our second meeting, Brett's father passed away. We ran into each other a third time, fell madly in love, and were engaged eight months later. We were literally a match made in Heaven."

Bridesmaid

Ashley and Jeff were just married in April — but they were engaged for three years! But unlike most couples who have long engagements to plan their ceremony, Ashley says that "six months after we met, Jeff was deployed to Iraq. For 13 months, he received a letter a week and tapes with my voice on them. We were lucky we got to bring in the unforgettable New Year together because he proposed! We waited to start our lives as husband and wife until he finished his service in the Army. So with his second tour survived, at last we got to say our vows!" But it was definitely worth the wait. As Ashley says, after that long engagement, "wedded bliss is remarkable!"
