Planes, Trains ... And Carrot Cake!

July 16, 2007

Bridesmaid

"My husband is an avid video game player," says Ana, who tied the knot last year in an impromptu civil ceremony on St. Patrick's Day. "Knowing this, our friends came up with this design for our cake. It was a complete and utter surprise and we still have all of the decorations in our house. We guess that we'll make a 'mobile' out of them once we have kids." But not only was the cake fun – Ana says it was a delicious carrot cake, "with buttermilk frosting – YUM!!" The newlywed also sent a shout-out to her pals: "Thanks to our friends for making our impromptu wedding a complete success!"

Yo, Ho, Ho, A Pirate's Cake For Them!

July 10, 2007

Bridesmaid

"For our pirate-themed wedding, my mother made a pirate ship cake," says Carolyn, who tied the knot this past May in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. "She built it with sheet cakes that she shaped and trimmed, and decorated it with handmade sails and little toy pirates. It was the most awesome wedding cake anyone could have. We also had a separate 'island' cake with our topper of 'the Captain and his lady.' We dressed to match the cake topper." All we want to know is, did they say "I do" – or "Ahoy?"

Their Cake Was A "Shore" Thing!

June 28, 2007

Bridesmaid

As anyone preparing for their nuptials can tell you, weddings are expensive! So Angel, who tied the knot in September of 2005, found a creative way to save some money — and put a personal touch on the special day. "Working on a limited budget, it was great to have friends and family willing to help," says the Richmond, Va., native. "A good friend of my fiancé's family, who is very creative, offered to make a cake tailored to our wedding. The flowers reflected summer colors we both really liked. On the sides were his and hers beach chairs with bags, a radio, towels and sandals. The top tier is sprinkled with grass colored coconuts and topped with a couple playing volleyball on a brown sugar 'sand' court."

The Cake Of Enchantment

June 20, 2007

Bridesmaid

"My fiancé and I are getting married in Santa Fe, New Mexico in December, and the hosts of our engagement party thought it would be wonderful for our engagement party cake to be inspired by Santa Fe," writes Sofia, who hails from Houston (and bought her cake from the La Victoria Bakery in her hometown). "Not only was it such a gorgeous masterpiece of art, but it also the best cake any of us had ever tasted. It was alternating layers of Italian cream cake and chocolate with ganache and raspberry filling." Yum!
