She Was A Real-Life Oscar Statuette!

Bridesmaid

"This was a BIG wedding." recalls bridesmaid Janell -- and she's not even talking about the gigantic gold gowns worn by the bridesmaids! "Eight attendants each, and all the girls in gold!" Says the White Bear Lake, MN, native of the frilly foil frock  "These were really shiny, extremely itchy and hot. Definitely an '80's event!" 1989, to be exact. Gotta love those '80s gowns!

Hi..this blog is great...i'm addicted to how people meet and how they were asked to be married...just yesterday i asked myself why isn't there a blog like this and today PRESTO!

THANK YOU SO MUCH...you couldn't get more up my alley than this..and the horrible dresses are so much fun!

Christine....as one of the bridesmaids in the picture who did grow up in the 80's....we did suck it up and wear the dresses (without complaining, mind you) and celebrated the wedding with our friend. But please...looking back at many of the things I wore in the 80's I just have to laugh at how awful they really were. I look at my own wedding and the bridesmaids dresses and wish I would have gone with something more "classic"...oh well, we all live and learn. What fun would it be if we couldn't look back and laugh at a few things?

. . . complete with fluffy 80s hair! Don't think I can't see you behind those blurs, ladies!

I really wish we could look at the whole wedding album.

I take it no one that has read any of these posts ever grew up in the 80's. I did and it was the rage and style to dress like this and no one thought anything of it at the time. I think it has got to be extremely hurtful to the brides in these weddings to be reading any of these comments and wondering why they picked the poeple that they did to even be in the wedding at all. If your bridal party cannot suck up there feelings for 1 day then they should not be in the wedding in the first place! Shame on everyone!!

MY EYES!! I have always heard that beauty is in the eye of the beholder...but when the beholder is blind from the brightness of this material, it is safe to say that may be a false statement in this case!

Eight sweet girls must have felt 'foil-ish' the first time they appeared in those poofy gold gowns, and here they are 'foiled again' all these years later in a magazine! Funny stuff! (the mom of one of the bridesmaids)

JUJUBABE | May 16, 2007 9:39:50 PM

I WOULDN'T WANT TO EVEN BE BURIED IN THIS FOILASCO!!

Jennifer | May 16, 2007 1:03:02 PM

Not only were the dresses typically 80's, but even with the pixalated faces I can tell you all had big 80's hair, too! That had to be a sight to behold. ICK!

OMG, This is sad even for 1989. I went to my prom in 1990 and NOBODY looked like this....EEEEWWWWW It ain't easy being cheesy!!!!!!

Kaillee | May 15, 2007 11:31:49 PM

Oh boy...these are a special kind of horrible. I'm sure you all got great reception with those metallic receivers, but beyond that I think they have no saving graces. What a mean thing of the bride to do. Was she trying to teach you all a lesson, perhaps for all 8 of you fighting over what type of dress you each wanted ?

Amber | May 15, 2007 12:34:48 PM

Oh my goodness. There are no words for this.

DAWNGIGI | May 15, 2007 11:18:19 AM

OMG!!! WAS THE BRIDE A FAN OF THE SOLID GOLD DANCERS? THESE MAY BE THE WINNERS OF THE TACKIEST DRESSES EVER!!!
