She Suffered From Deja Ew

If you think this dress looks a bit familiar, you're not alone. "Apparently this five dollar consignment dress had made the rounds," writes Buffalo, M.N., bridesmaid Joanne, "because a lot of women over 40 told me they had one just like it for prom or weddings they were in!" We admit that we've seen similar versions of the same dress. They're all shiny, poufy -- and much-despised by the wearer. "I almost dropped out [of the wedding], that's how much I HATED this dress," says Joanne. "I came to my senses and of course stuck with it for my best friend!"

Wow! Who would have thought that so many people had to wear this. This is the same dress I was suppose to were to my friends wedding(they broke up before the wedding). So I wore it to my prom with friends. This was a very bad luck dress. her engagement broke up and so did mine right before the prom, and another girl wore the same dress and color to the prom.

Hideous. Sad. Satiny. Furious. I would have been. Telling your guests (I'm sure Ms. Manners agrees) what to wear is tacky. In the world of well-mannered, kind-and-oh-so-nice people, telling your guests what to wear is right up there with telling them what gift to buy. By the by, the dress looks fresh off the Epileptic Seamstresses' Association Reject-a-thon sale.

OH MY GOD!!!! Did everyone wear this dress??!! I wore this same dress AND color for my sister's wedding in 1989! I LOVED this dress...of course I was 13 at the time too!!!

I wore this same dress to my friends wedding. I looked like a Christmas tree. It looked terrible on someone with red hair like myself.

This was the bridesmaids dresses for my first marriage! I want the world to know...I let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses and color. I was nervous about it! But my bridesmaids actually looked really good in them. The color was called Persian Carpet...I'll never forget it. Of course that marriage is over and I've not talked to my 2 bridesmaids in over 6 years, hmmm...think there's a connection?

I wore this dress in a wedding in 1991. Only ours were mauve -- actually, the bridesmaids wore mauve and the maid of honor wore the teal color. Pretty.

I too had worn this dress in a wedding as well and looked awful. But at the time this is all there was, what a sad time for wedding fashion. This is typical 80's.
joanne | May 3, 2007 12:44:29 PM
ooh! So it's Amanda's fault I had to wear this?! Ha! :)
Amanda | May 2, 2007 8:00:53 PM
OH MY GOD! I wore this same dress (even the same COLOR) in Wisconsin in 1988. I donated it (along with a lot of even UGLIER bridesmaid dresses) to Goodwill!

I wore this bridesmaid dress in burgundy! To this day, I'm convinced that this was created for brides who feared being upstaged by any other woman at their wedding... believe me, no one was checking out the bridesmaids at this wedding! LOL!

I too wore that dress! But it was RED RED and 1 size tooo small! I was falling out of it. It was horrible.!!!!!! I just laughed when I saw this one....memories...:)

What's even worse than the dress, is the horrible flowers she is holding.
Susan | May 1, 2007 8:17:06 PM
Ok! this is weird! I wore this dress when I was 8 I was in my cousin's wedding. Of course at 8 years old I thought it was so cool I used it for dress up afterwards until I couldn't zip it up anymore. I look at it now and thank God I wasnt older when I wore it.

The tragic thing is, this silhouette has the potential to be very flattering to a lot of different figures. No, really, ladies, I'm not joking. Of course, it's supposed to be fitted to the figure. The end result is supposed to be very, very curvy: deep neckline with a lot of cleavage, a very fitted waist, and gathers that skim over any areas which might need skimming over. For those who don't cleave, it's supposed to show off pretty shoulders and a nice back. That's the intent of the design, at least. Too often, it winds up being made in satin - flattering to very, very few - and sized as a Big Satin Bag, flattering to none. This dress is a travesty.

Well, let's see, at least your tattoo matched the dress. ; ) As I look at it again, it's really ugly and wonder how on earth did the top stay up? Thank goodness you didn't have to wear big poufy hair with it, did you? I'm so glad you donated it to the trash, so some unlucky person never has to wear it again. And like your Mom said, you are a lovely person, unlike the dress!
joanne | May 1, 2007 2:16:51 PM
hey! look at that! I mentioned in a comment that it's MN and not NY and they fixed it!!! How cool is that?! Thanks to whomever did that! And thanks mom for pointing out the maid of honor is NOTHING like the dress! ;) Again, I apologize to all who have worn similar.
Chris | May 1, 2007 1:52:48 PM
Oh my! I thought I was the only one who wore this dress! Don't know if it was the exact one - but the one I wore had a really deep "V" in the back - which made it difficult to keep the sleeves on the shoulders. Early 90's. Teal. Big sleeves. Made us all look 10lbs heavier than we were. Just horrible!
Carrie | May 1, 2007 12:42:47 PM
I am the Mom of the bridesmaid. Even though the dress is about as bad as they get,the bridesmaid was pretty darn attractive. If I remember correctly the dress went in the trash the next day or soon thereafter. No re-gifting or donating of this dress. Not to worry....
joanne | May 1, 2007 12:16:45 PM
oh yeah...one more thing they left out...I wore this d@mn dress just over TWO years ago! Yes, the 21st century!
joanne | May 1, 2007 12:07:15 PM
Hi! It's me the tatooed (1st mistake) maid of honor in this HORRIBLE dress! I actually want to clarify that I'm in Buffalo, MN, not NY. Nothing wrong with NY of course, but MN is my home! Not the home of this dress anymore though! and Jenny, I'm so so sorry for you-sorry that we have to be a part of such a sad club!
jenny | May 1, 2007 9:55:46 AM
I wore this exact same dress, even the same colour, to my sister's wedding in 1990. It was horrible then and horrible now. At the wedding, all the bridesmaids were taking bets on how long their marriage would last - looks like 5 years was the longest their marriage would withstand with such hideous wedding photos gracing the walls in their home! Fortunately her second marriage was in Cook Islands without a tacky bridesmaid dress within 500 miles.
