Hippie 1970's Bride Says "I'm Sorry" Now!
April 17, 2007
Christine admits that her flower power wedding was more hippie chick than hippie chic: "I can't believe, when I look at this picture now, what I was thinking!" the Moorpark, California, bride tells us of her 1976 nuptuals. "I wanted a simple old-fashioned wedding, and I thought the fabric looked old-fashioned. My bridesmaids hated the material and tried to talk me out of it -- but my mind was set." Looking back now, she admits, "I must have been out of my mind!"

I was born in 1977, and I REMEMBER this fabric being in my bedroom as a child!! Maybe some kind of quilt? I can't recall. But I was really excited to see it again. . . and. . . I'm SO SO SORRY. As a bride-to-be, I entered "hippie bridesmaids" into the search-engine, because I'm sick of looking at the same generic wedding-crap over and over again. But perhaps I'll be safer and more timeless just sticking with the generic crap, eh?

This is so funny! It made me laugh because I was a teenager in the 70's and I wore some clothes back then that makes me laugh today! But this is so bad...it's funny!

On the bright side (oh wait, they're already bright), a pattern like that camouflages any body flaws, and the girls all blend together. You can't tell where one ends and where the next begins! Does that symbolize the unity in your marriage?
I've seen not-so-great dresses, but these take the wedding cake!!!

Oh my goodness!! My husband's grandmother has throw pillows on her orange couch RIGHT NOW made out of this pattern!! I love how bright and colorful they are, and as I see it you are the bride and it is your day....the bridesmaids just have to play along :o)

Karyn | Apr 17, 2007 4:03:14 PM
WOW the memories !! I made a quilt for my boyfriend out of the same material for his birthday in June 1976 (and he still has it). I guess it was a really popular pattern that year !!

LOL, maybe on the bright side, each bridesmaid took part of her dress and took up quilting.
