Chocolate: Fun to Eat, Not to Wear
April 18, 2007

"Who doesn't love chocolate brown velour?" asks bridesmaid Shelly. Hmm... Do we detect a note of sarcasm? "The bride is a great friend of mine but she didn't do us any favors by choosing this dress," explains Shelly, pointing out that the accessories only made things worse. "Elbow length, scrunched up gloves and matching pumps. To top it all off, we had to wear white tights." There is only reason we can think of for dressing bridesmaids like chocolate popsicles. As Shelly says: "We definitely did not upstage the bride!!"

I hope the bride has a sense of humor or a thick hide when people looking through her wedding album laugh her out of the room or ask her, "Who picked out the awful dresses and accessories?"

I don't think chocolate is a bad color at all. Especially for a fall wedding. I think it all depends on the style and fabric that you use.

Not a great choice, but the gloves look like she has each hand shoved up the hind end of a Shar-Pei. Silly.

I was also the victim of bad legwear at my brother's wedding, but it was my sister, a fellow bridesmaid and former fashionista who refused to let me out of the house before I put black nylons on under my strappy heels. Eeew!
The gloves must have been an attempt to dress up the chocolate-brown nightgown she made you wear. Even with better accessories, it still would have only been a casual dress.

I agree that the color is horrid for a wedding! You could get by attending a funeral with this though. You were all great sports to actually go along with this! One thing I can say, you are great friends to have!!

Well, the dress might have worked OK with different accessories and flowers. That's saying a lot from me because brown is just not my color. Some bronze, some sparkly jewelry, even dyed satin shoes would have been better. The red flowers were the wrong color too. Maybe some cream or gold and bronze flowers, depending on the season. No gloves, no way! Poor girls - I bet the last time they were forced to wear white tights was on Easter when they were 5 years old!
